In the UK, all forms of animal testing for household cleaning products were banned in 2015. However, the RSPCA still has concerns. While ‘end product’ animal testing is rare, testing on individual ingredients to ensure consumer safety still occurs. This loophole means that some substances, like cleaning chemicals, are still tested on animals to to satisfy other legislation such as the EU Chemicals Regulation (REACH).
As a result, animals are sometimes still used to test if inhaling, ingesting or just being exposed to a chemical product or ingredient damages health.
