How Probiotic Products Work

Ingenious Probiotics’ Provilan products are enriched with the natural cleaning power of beneficial (‘good’) probiotic bacteria, naturally sourced from plants. These helpful probiotics are one of nature’s most powerful assets. They are vegan, sourced from plants such as rapeseed and beans, and are chemical-free, non-toxic and non-polluting. They are completely safe for adults, children, animals and the environment – and cleaning operatives.

The helpful probiotics naturally and thoroughly clean whatever they touch – whether hard and soft surfaces, animal hair and skin, or polluted land and water. They restore optimal ecological conditions and microbial balance – a healthy microbiome – at a microbial level. They work in a natural and mechanical way that reduces antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and continues to clean for up to 3 days between applications, giving longer lasting results.

  • Reduces the risk of bacterial infections by inhibiting opportunistic, pathogenic bacteria.
  • Improves allergy management by reducing bio-allergen triggers – including pollen, dust mite faeces & animal dander.
  • Improves indoor air quality (IAQ) & hygiene by removing mould & odour bio-hazards. (Add Ingenious air purification to remove pollution & particulates).

Provilan probiotic-based cleaning products don’t just mask odours, they remove the root causes – without chemicals and without polluting indoor air. Read more in our News post: How Probiotic Cleaning Products Eliminate Unpleasant Odours. They are also scientifically proven and A+ rated for respiratory safety and indoor air quality – Read more.

The Importance of Bacterial Balance

There is often a misconception around the role of bacteria and they are often misunderstood: If you recoiled from the word ‘bacteria’ you are not alone – it has many connotations that can feel instinctively negative. But in fact, not all bacteria are created equal. The right balance of helpful (probiotic) and harmful (pathogenic) bacteria is essential for maintaining wellness, real cleanliness and infection prevention. Probiotics naturally re-establish this essential environmental bacterial balance, which fosters environmental conditions that support immunity.

How Chemical Cleaning Agents Cause Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

Freely prescribed antibiotics and the overuse of biocides and chemical disinfectants have kept us relatively safe for years, but everything has changed. They used to work; but bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites are progressively resisting and once treatable illnesses are becoming dangerous again. If we don’t change our attitudes to cleaning and animal care, drug resistant and healthcare acquired infections (HAIs) may become an unbeatable threat to human, animal and environmental health. The World Health Organisation believes antimicrobial resistance will claim 10 million lives every year by 2050.

The community of microorganisms that live in any particular habitat is called the microflora. The microflora contains a mix of both ‘good’ (helpful, probiotic) and ‘bad’ (harmful, pathogenic) bacteria. The problem with traditional chemical and synthetic cleaning agents is that they kill 99.9% of all these bacteria – harmful and helpful. But that remaining 0.1% can be enough for the harmful ones to replicate back almost immediately.

The helpful bacteria quickly become outnumbered and the harmful pathogenic bacteria gain the upper hand. With no competition, the pathogens increase in numbers more quickly. They evolve and adapt and grow ever stronger. They grow a protective shield and develop resistance. Increasingly stronger measures are needed to try and stop their progression into resilient super bugs. But increasing the strength of antibiotics and traditional cleaning agents only increases the pathogen’s strength and resistance with every cycle. The effectiveness of the cleaning agents is continually reducing and the environment’s natural equilibrium is slowly being destroyed.

How Provilan Probiotics Reduce Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

Our helpful probiotics are non-mutative and work differently and more effectively. They use safe, natural and mechanical processes to restore, not destroy, microbial balance:

Bio-Competition: All the bacteria in the microflora, whether helpful or harmful, need the same resources – food, space and oxygen – to survive and thrive. They also need warmth and time to work effectively. Each Provilan probiotic product contains huge quantities of carefully selected, helpful probiotic bacteria. When applied to the spaces where harmful, pathogenic bacteria thrive a competition for the resources – and for survival – begins.

Bio-Augmentation: The probiotic bacteria win the competition through sheer weight of numbers. They deprive the pathogenic bacteria of the food and space they need to survive, so the pathogens die and become a food source for the pathogens. This restores a healthy ratio of helpful to harmful bacteria, with the probiotics now occupying the space. Any remaining pathogens are ineffective because the probiotics have the control.

Destroying the Coronavirus (Covid-19)

EVAA+, DENAA+ Healthcare and DENAA+ Fitness and Wellness probiotic cleaning products are also eco-detergents that thoroughly cleanse. The action of cleaning combined with soap surfactants break apart the virus fat membrane. The helpful probiotics then safely consume the broken-down virus as a natural food source. The probiotics remain on surfaces and floors for up to 3 days after cleaning and continue to work. They also maintain effectiveness if used with alcohol hand gels.

A Strategy to Achieve the UK’s 5-Year Action Plan to Tackle Antimicrobial Resistance

Ingenious Probiotics provide a key strategy to meet the UK Government targets to reduce antibiotic use in humans by 15% and animals by 25% by 2024:

  • DENAA+ Patient Bed Cleaner Spray & LUCAA+ & ANNAA+ Wound Care Sprays reduce MRSA by 99% WITHOUT antibiotics.
  • Helps reduce antibiotic use & related costs in animals & aquaculture.
  • Reduces antimicrobial resistance.

How Probiotic Bio-Remediation Cleans Contaminated Land & Water

Land and water pollution is a serious global problem that endangers both lives and the ecosystem. TERRAA+ probiotic products use the natural and organic process of microbial bio-remediation to safely clean contaminated environments. The Environmental Protection Agency describes bio-remediation as a “treatment that uses naturally occurring organisms to break down hazardous substances into less toxic or non-toxic substances.”

The helpful probiotics significantly reduce the quantity of contaminants by efficiently breaking them down into harmless and re-usable substances, and then consuming them as a food and energy source. They break down the long chain molecules found in chemical additives in hydrocarbons, which leads to the natural bio-degradation of the hydrocarbons themselves. This provides an easy way to reduce hydrogen air pollution (HAP) levels in affected areas to below required limits. It reduces the need to excavate land and incinerate soil once the HAP level is lowered to meet requirements. Treating sludge with TERRAA+ probiotics reduces the volume, which reduces the cost of transport and the need for environmentally harmful incineration. It also allows the sludge to be used as agricultural fertilizer, turning a potentially costly and negative situation into a positive and profitable one.

The helpful probiotics also make water a cleaner, healthier and safer habitat for aquatic life. They consume organic waste, prevent the growth of blue green algae and can reduce sludge height by up to 30%.
